Mary Rachel Jones

  Birth Notes:

Had illegitimate son George Jones (born Whittington, 1858) before she married John Halewood - George never lived with Mary and John but with his grandmother in Whittington. He changed his name to George Halewood after John died. He moved to Liverpool and married Elizabeth Spencer in 1899. George gave John Halewood (deceased) as his father on the marriage certificate, although this may not be true. Adopted Edith Halewood after the death of her father William in 1901. George and Elizabeth had three children, two of whom died in infancy - only one, James, survived (Edith always referred to James as her brother even though they were actually cousins). George died in 1917. James' daughter Joan still lives in Whittington. Information from Joyce Lawrence nee Langford.

Mary married John Halewood, son of John 2 Halewood and Nancy Ann Smith, on 23 May 1864 in Liverpool Lancs [St. Nicholas].¹⁷ (John Halewood was born in Apr 1840 in Bidston Birkenhead Wirral Cheshire,¹⁷ died in Mar 1889 in Birkenhead Wirral Cheshire ¹⁷ and was buried on 30 Mar 1889 in Birkenhead Wirral Cheshire [Flaybrick Hill Cemetery] ¹⁷.)
