James Fraser in the 1841 Census aged 15, son of James (55) and Mary (55) Fraser, born Inverness-shire. Address given as Aldnarie. Siblings Elizabeth (20) and Alexander (14).

James Fraser in the 1851 Census; aged 28, born about 1823, son of James (71) and Mary (68) Fraser, Born Inverness, Inverness-shire. Address is given as Caiplich; there is a Caiplich Farm near Abriachan, just west of Loch Ness. Other family members listed are Alexander Fraser (26) and another James Fraser aged 14.

Previous family research identified him as James Fraser born Inverness, 7/12/1824, son of Alexander Fraser and Mary Rinnan. However, this is contradicted by the name "James Fraser" as his father on his marriage certificate.
