John James Mountfield

  Birth Notes:

Birthplace in 1881 given as Birkenhead, which is a mistake. Birthplace in 1871 and 1901 given as Alpraham Nantwich Cheshire.

Was brought up by Henry Mountfield and his wife Ellen Ann but his parents aren't listed on his baptism. Linda Doyle thinks they may have been William Mountfield born abt 1839 Stoke who married Eliza Ann Vickers, although I suspect their son is the wrong James Mountfield.

In 1881 Henry and Ellen A Mountfield lived at 13 Warwick Street, Birkenhead. His job was an "Inspector of Mu..." which I assume is of "Municipal Police Force" as Detective Inspector Mountfield is mentioned in an 1882 case in a book about Birkenhead Police.
