Birth Notes:
From Barbara Samples: I have become very interested in Samuel Bennett's second wife, who appears to have been married three times. It might be possible to trace a descendant. Her maiden name was WHITTAKER (from cert. of marriage to Samuel BENNETT) She married 1. John LOWE. The GRO reference is Sept Qtr 1904 West Derby 8b754. According to the newspaper report on Samuel's death she had sons. I looked at a 1931 Trade Directory and the appropriate Electoral Register. Mrs. Ruth Bennett was a China Dealer living at 110 Conway Street, Birkenhead. With her were John Harding, Ruth Lowe and Thomas Lowe. I then looked at the GRO Births index. Ruth reg. Sept. Qtr 1906 Birkenhead 8a 473 Thomas reg. March Qtr. 1908 Birkenhead 8a 491 Elizabeth reg. Dec. Qtr. 1910 Birkenhead 8a 433 mother's maiden nameis WHITTAKER. John reg. Dec. Qtr 1912 Birkenhead 8a 875? " Martha reg. Sept. Qtr. 1914 Birkenhead 8a 966 " I have not found any baptisms in Anglican churches, all searched except for Bidston. John died in the 1st World War. I looked at the Roll of Honour forms on microfiche in Birkenhead Reference Library. John Lowe of 83 Beckwith Street, aged 35, Married, died 3rd Sept. 1916, Killed in Action. Next of kin was Ruth Crean (re-married) of 83 Beckwith Street. Relationship to Deceased, widow remarried, widowed again. Date 21st July 1924. 2. She married Michael CREAN Sept Qtr. 1924, probably in a Roman Catholic Church. Flaybrick Cemetery, Roman Catholic Section 5 Grave 577 May 16th 1924 was buried Michael CREAN aged 33. Also Agnes Monica CREAN 10th March 1925 aged 3 years Agnes was reg. Dec.Qtr 1921, mother's maiden name WHITTAKER. 3. Samuel BENNETT 28th July 1927 at Holy Trinity Church, Birkenhead. In 1935 the shop at 110 Conway Street was being run by Miss Ruth Lowe, obviously not married. Also living there were John and Elizabeth Lowe, and John Harding. I think this is quite a tale. Although this is a bit of a deviation from Samuel, I think it's quite fascinating. I hope you do too.
